Medtronic said it is the focus of a federal investigation looking into its relationship with doctors at a hospital in Massachusetts.
According to an AP report, the medical device maker said in its regulatory filings that the investigation focuses on its CoreValve division.
Medtronic, and other major medical device makers, are accused of having conflicts of interest with physicians, paying them handsomely in exchange for favorable research to be used to the company’s benefit.
Some physicians have made in excess of $1 million for their exclusive use of a specific medical device or drug, or in exchange for services promoting the drugs or devices.
Medtronic is allegedly being accused of inappropriate relationships with cardiologists at Tufts University Schol of Medicine’s Lahey Clinic.
