Medtronic Pacemakers Could Cause Death
June 12th, 2009 meg
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) says that thousands of Medtronic pacemakers, subject to a recent product recall, could potentially cause serious injury or death.
Medtronic told doctors and patients last month that 37,000 of its pacemakers may have wiring defects that could cause them to malfunction.
The defects affect a small subset of Kappa and Sigma pacemakers, causing them to not respond or run out of battery power.
About 1.7 million of the pacemakers have been implanted since 1997.
