Squeaky hips baffling doctors near Philadelphia

The Bucks County Courier Times reports a doctor who was first taken aback by one of his patients who he heard walking into the examination room.
The patient didn’t have a lead foot, but more of a squeaking hip.
According to a 2006 study, 10 in every 143 hip replacements using ceramic on ceramic hip implant parts have resulted in a squeaking joint.
Reports of this happening were rare before 2003, but were believed to be underreported.
Medical device companies are under increasing scrutiny for the lack of sterility at its manufacturing facilities where these parts are made.
Stryker has received Food and Drug Administration warning letters about its facilities in Cork, Ireland and at one in New Jersey.
