Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch Injuries Still Occurring
March 25th, 2008 amy
The defective Kugel Mesh Hernia Patches are still injuring people, and new claims are still being filed, particularly since the beginning of 2008. In January, the Rhode Island Federal Judge hearing Kugel patch cases expanded the proceedings to include all lawsuits claiming injuries caused by Davol’s defective hernia patches — even those not included in the recalls. At that time, at least 2,000 complaint reports had been filed with the FDA in connection with non-recalled Davol patches.
Hernia patients implanted with any Kugel Patch (sometimes referred to as Kugel Mesh) may experience life-threatening injuries, including chronic enteric fistulas and infections, and even bowel perforations. Thousands of patients were implanted with the dangerous patches before the first recall happened in 2005. Many are still implanted, because the surgeries to remove the patch can be risky. Those who do experience injuries often have to go through risky, painful surgery, and many still do not recover.
Patients implanted with the Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch who experience persistent abdominal pain, unexplained fever or tenderness to the incision site should seek medical attention. Anyone who has incurred such injuries is encouraged to seek legal counsel to make sure their claims are paid.
