Medtronic Says it Wants “Level Playing Field” for Sunshine Act

Embattled medical device maker Medtronic Inc. says a proposed Sunshine Act that would require full disclosure of payments and communication between device makers and physicians, should include all device makers, not just the large ones.
Reuters reports the Sunshine Act would require disclosure of payments made to physicians that helped medical device makers with an annual revenue of more than $100 million with product development, research and training.
Medtronic says this bill puts scrutiny on only 25 percent of the medical device industry as a majority of the companies fall under that income limit.
Medtronic told Reuters, “a level playing field for all companies is appropriate and that these entities should operate under the same disclosure requirements, recognizing that transparency can help alleviate any real or perceived conflicts of interest with these types of companies as well.”
