Stryker Recall Leads to Canadian Shortage

Canadian patients awaiting hip replacement surgeries are being forced to wait because of a recall from Stryker Orthopedics Cork, Ireland plant.
Stryker recalled the Trident hemispherical and Trident PSL Shells in late January. Canada is now importing the parts from Stryker’s Mahwah, N.J., facility. We recently reported on this blog that the FDA sent Stryker two warning letters last year about safety conditions at both facilities.
Patients began hearing a squeaking noise and unexpected pain after receiving a Stryker hip implant.
Canadian health officials are not reporting any injuries from the recalled parts, but those awaiting surgery are being forced to wait longer.
