Mentor OBTape Injures Dozens

At least a dozen women are suing Mentor Corp. over complications regarding its ObTape, a sling that aims to stop incontinence, or a leaking bladder.
One woman in a KING-TV report says her device worked well at first – as she took part in a Virginia Mason clinical trial. But after just five months, the woman started experiencing complications with the ObTape.
According to this woman’s lawyer, the device does not allow tissue to get through the mesh and causes a feeling of wax paper rubbing inside the woman’s body, causing an infection and further complications.
Virginia Mason contacted the woman a year later with this information and she came in for it to be removed. Unfortunately, after four surgeries, the device is still partially inside her body.
Mentor removed the ObTape from the market just three years after introducing it. At least 35,000 women have been implanted with this device.
